ENUGU, NIGERIA — One week in, and the 2026 Summer ICT Boot Camp at CIDJAP, Enugu, has already delivered arrivals, orientation, real coursework, and a few genuinely exciting moments. Here's a look back at how the first week unfolded — and a preview of what's ahead as we move to weekly recaps for the rest of the five-week program.
"We Rise, We Lead, We Impact!"
Fifteen participants traveling from outside Enugu arrived at King's Kids Comprehensive Secondary School, accompanied by coordinator Mr. Phil Ukaegbu. Country Representative Charity Ani welcomed them, thanking the Board of Directors and Mr. Ukaegbu for making the program possible, and challenging students to bring their best behavior to camp. Orientation closed with the Ifiwerexyz Peace Club motto, chanted together: "Ifiwerexyz, we rise, we lead, we impact!" — Read the full story →
21 Students, Nine Schools, Five Weeks
The boot camp officially opened at CIDJAP with all 21 participants sorted into three tracks: 15 in Basic Computer Application, 4 in Web Development, and 2 in Graphic Design. Students traveling from outside Enugu settled into accommodation at King's Kids, subsidized through a valuable in-kind partnership. — Read the full story →
New Laptops, New Skills
Basics students covered shortcuts, device essentials, and user account types with facilitator Chris Igwilo. Web Development students, guided by Olivia Omeje, moved into image tags and file paths — and four of them received brand-new laptops courtesy of If I Were XYZ, Inc. to support their training. Graphic Design students, under facilitator Peculiar Eze, were introduced to the elements and principles of design. — Read the full story →
Tables, Forms, and Visible Progress
A tense, tasking day (and a hot one) brought Basics students into Microsoft forms and tables, plus a first introduction to Excel. Web Development students tackled table tags for displaying data in rows and columns. And Graphic Design students impressed their facilitator with four completed projects and rapid, visible improvement. — Read the full story →
What Week 1 Tells Us
Three days into structured training, a pattern is already emerging: students are moving fast. Basics students went from keyboard shortcuts to duplicating forms to an Excel introduction in the space of two sessions. Web Development students went from image tags to structuring full tables of data. And Graphic Design students, starting from nothing but core principles, were producing work their own facilitator called out for rapid, visible improvement.
None of that happens without the right conditions — facilitators who show up prepared, a venue at CIDJAP that supports hands-on learning, accommodation at King's Kids for students traveling from outside Enugu, and now, laptops in the hands of students who need them most.
Ways to Support Weeks 2 Through 5
- Cash donations — fund facilitator stipends, feeding, transportation, and training materials
- In-kind donations — laptops, computer accessories, software licenses
- Volunteer facilitators — professionals in IT, design, or web development willing to guest-teach or mentor
One week down, four to go. Help us keep this momentum going for all 21 students through the finish line.
